Inspiration

Like my Granddaughter, Mary is very talented and beautiful although she has a disability. My granddaughter was born with Hydrocephalus but has overcome it wonderfully through her courage and fortitude and lives a great life. She a real heroine in our family

This little book was inspired by, and is dedicated to, the second of my three granddaughters, Savannah Miller. Savannah was born with Hydrocephalus and from her infancy she has endured 50+ (and counting) CAT Scans and/or MRI’s. One MRI lasted over 2 hours in the MRI tube. She has had countless headaches, stomach problems, 3 surgeries to install and repair her shunt, and the list goes on, yet she has always remained positive, thankful and ready to conquer any obstacle in her path. She leads worship at our church, has played on her High School volleyball team, performs with a selected group in the choir at her High School and is headed off to college this year to study to be a pediatric nurse. She is beautiful and talented and has never let her Hydrocephalus slow her down.

My hope is this little book will encourage other children, who are challenged with a disability, to concentrate on the many wonderful things they can do rather than the few they can't. I believe we can all learn a lesson from Merry Mary/Savannah in this area of our lives. The Bible states, in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all this through Him (Christ) who gives me strength.” (NIV) The world around us seems to focus on negativity these days but Philippians 4:8 encourages us to meditate upon "...whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are pure and just and lovely, things that are of good report anything that is praiseworthy, think on these.” I believe this is Mary’s and Savannah’s secret to living life above their circumstances.

I hope you enjoy reading this little book and sharing it with your children and grandchildren as much as I enjoyed creating Arnold’s and Herman’s newest friend “Merry Mary Monoplane”.
